UK inflation surges to new 40-year high of 9.4%

LONDON – Inflation in the United Kingdom has accelerated to a new 40-year high, driven by rising food and fuel prices that are contributing to a cost-of-living crisis. Consumer prices rose 9.4% this year through June, up from 9.1% the previous month, the Office for National Statistics said Wednesday. The new figure is the highest since 1982, when inflation peaked at 11%. Ousting of U.K. PM Boris Johnson won’t affect ties with Canada, trade talks

The Canadian government says the ousting of U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson by his party will not affect Canada's negotiations on a free-trade agreement. A spokeswoman for International Trade Minister Mary Ng says negotiations for the new deal will continue smoothly as Canada and the U.K. share a long history and close ties. UK heatwave: Leeds is so hot that Tropical World is closing for the sake of the animals’ welfare

Tropical World at Roundhay Park is a butterfly house, licensed zoo and exotic plant collection housed in climate-controlled glasshouses. It is run by Leeds City Council. The building's sections all replicate tropical and desert environments from around the world and are home to species such as terrapins, poison dart frogs, clownfish, octopus, stingrays, seahorses, tropical fish, snakes, lizards, iguanas, parrot, bats and armadillos.
